Course Description:
Python Programming Fundamentals is a two-week intensive course designed for beginners and professionals interested in learning to program in Python and its uses for data science. This course will focus on how to create Python scripts used for automation and how to use programming libraries for use with data science. Participants are expected to have a basic understanding of Pure Mathematics and core programming fundamentals. The course includes practice labs in line with the course content, and a final lab project, aligning with industry practices.
Course Lecturer Biographies:
Dr. Akash Pooransingh joined the department in 2002. He completed his MSc in 2005 in Communication Systems with distinction with a research project in Image Processing. This project was conducted at the Sigmedia Laboratory (http://www.sigmedia.tv/), Trinity College in Dubin, Ireland under the supervision of Prof. Anil Kokaram. In 2005 he was awarded a UWI Post Graduate Scholarship and started his PhD under the supervision of Prof. Kokaram and Dr. Cathy-Ann Radix and is set to submit in 2008. He completed his PhD in 2012. His research area is in the field of image processing and video analysis for parsing with a particular interest in sport video.
Mr. Aniel Maharajh joined the department in 2010 as a teaching assistant and is now currently an Instructor. He completed his M.Phil. in 2018, doing research in visual and audio media processing. This thesis was under the supervision of Dr. Cathy-Ann Radix at the University of The West Indies. St. Augustine, Trinidad W.I. His research areas are focused on the field of video processing and real-world hardware and software applications, with a particular interest for modernizing existing systems.
